Dear Friend,
In the spring of 1996, I joined four colleagues in periodic coffee house meetings to develop the plan for a new high school. We were
teachers, and we had seen firsthand the students who were being failed by the existing school system. We knew there was a need for a
school that could provide bright students who learned differently with a rigorous curriculum in a progressive and creative environment.
We believed that a focus on the school as a community was the key to engaging students in a genuine learning process. We were so
passionate and enthusiastic. It was an exciting time full of new possibilities.
When I think about the lives we have touched as a school community over the past 13 years, I am awed and humbled by the people who
have been a part of this experience. Every student who has passed through our colorful doors has put their stamp on our school; every
parent who volunteered to weed a garden bed has had an impact on our community. But I am most inspired by the group of educators who
have dedicated their lives over many years to the vision of a school that could be a place for genuine learning and healthy development
of our "diamonds in the rough."
For every Griffin School student who has struggled through Latin, Community Involvement, and Fundamentals of Art, we have been partners
with their families in supporting them through the transition from children to young adults. This has never been easy work; but we have
always felt lucky to be engaged in an effort that is meaningful and worthwhile. The difference we make in the world is tangible and
significant.
None of our work would be possible without the involvement and support of people like you who recognize that this small group of
passionate educators and students has an impact beyond the walls of our building and is a model for education reform nationally. We
welcome your participation in this effort and welcome your engagement in our community. There are many ways to volunteer at our school
and make a difference in the experience of our students and faculty. If you would like to explore ways you can volunteer to support
our school community, please do not hesitate to contact me.
If you would like to make a financial contribution to the school, you can do so online via our PayPal account or by sending us a check.
The school is also honored to accept planned recurring donations, corporate matching gifts, and donations of appreciated securities -
please let me know if you would like to make any of these arrangements. Your financial support is a meaningful investment in the life
of our school and in the future of our community. Thank you so much for your involvement and your support!
